Job Title: Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Defence
Location: London
Salary: Up to £100,000
A specialist applied AI company supporting the Defence and National Security community is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead client engagements and take ownership of production ML solutions in some of the most technically demanding environments in the sector.
This is not a back office engineering role. You will be embedded with clients and stakeholders onsite, translating complex operational problems into robust, deployable ML systems, and leading technical scoping and architectural decisions from initial concept through to live operation. The environments are often constrained, the stakes are high, and the sense of achievement is substantial.
This role requires existing UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain it. Please consider your ability to commit to onsite work in London before applying.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
