Senior Management Accountant
Reports to: Head of Financial Operations
The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to support business decision-making. The role involves preparing management accounts, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, cost control, and ensuring the integrity of financial data. The Senior Management Accountant will work closely with operational and departmental managers to drive financial performance and support strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Lead the performance of Balance Sheet reconciliations, including credit cards and control accounts, ensuring robust variance investigation, timely resolution, and clear escalation where required
- Act as the primary point of accountability for the integrity of the Balance Sheet, proactively identifying and resolving issues before month end close
- Lead the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements and proactively managing any arising queries
- Take ownership of the month end close process, driving timely completion and preparation of high-quality Management Information for senior stakeholders

Internal Controls & Governance
- Champion a strong internal controls environment, leading periodic reviews to identify and remediate weaknesses across the operational finance team
- Develop and maintain a controls framework appropriate to a growing, multi-office legal business
- Support the business in maintaining SRA compliance from a financial controls perspective
Commercial & Strategic Support
- Act as a senior partner to the FP&A team, providing substantive input into budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning cycles — not just support
- Provide financial insight and commentary to the Head of Financial Operations and CFO as required
- Contribute to post-acquisition integration activity, ensuring acquired entities are brought into the firm's financial control framework effectively
Systems & Process Improvement
- Assist with new system implementation, input into scoping, managing testing cycles, co-ordinating across the finance team
- Drive continuous improvement across financial accounting processes, identifying inefficiencies and implementing scalable solutions in line with the firm's growth ambitions
- Mentor and develop junior members of the finance team, acting as a technical reference point

Qualifications and Skills:
- ACCA/CIMA qualified
- Proven track record of owning Balance Sheet integrity and delivering month end close in a complex environment
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including VAT, internal controls, and financial reporting standards
- Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with finance systems implementation or optimisation an advantage
- Confident leading and mentoring others within a finance team
