Hays are delighted to be supporting a well-established and highly respected organisation on the Isle of Wight in the recruitment of a Senior Management Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to join a values-led organisation that plays a vital role within the local community.
Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Resources, you will take on a key role within the finance team, helping to drive financial performance, support strategic decision-making and deliver high-quality financial management across a large and complex organisation.
Your new role
This is a broad and varied position that offers exposure to both operational and strategic finance activities. Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the preparation of monthly management accounts, reporting packs and financial analysis
- Supporting annual budget setting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
- Preparing statutory accounts and managing the year-end process
- Developing financial models, business cases and scenario planning
- Managing cashflow forecasting and treasury activities
- Providing financial advice, challenge and support to managers and budget holders
- Maintaining strong financial controls, reconciliations and governance arrangements
- Liaising with auditors and key external stakeholders
- Supporting finance systems development and process improvement initiatives
- Deputising for the Director of Finance and Resources when required

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) with strong technical accounting and business partnering experience. You will also demonstrate:
- Experience preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts
- Experience producing statutory accounts and supporting external audits
- Strong financial analysis and financial modelling skills
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and lookups
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to present complex financial information to non-finance audiences
- A proactive approach to improving financial systems, processes and controls
Experience within the education, public, charity or not-for-profit sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.
