Senior Management Accountant – Full-Time – Newcastle, Tyne & Wear

The Role
The Senior Management Accountant will play a key part in managing the month-end close process and maintaining controls across the MI team to deliver accurate information to the business in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded and analytical, with the ability to build strong relationships across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly management accounts across areas of responsibility, with accountability for monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Work alongside Finance Business Partners to deliver insightful variance analysis and commentary against budget, forecast, and prior year. Ensure timely, accurate reporting is distributed to relevant budget holders.
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts in collaboration with department heads and the FP&A team.
- Provide financial insight for commercial decisions for the FP&A team, ensuring accuracy of data provided.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting tools, and systems.
- Collaborate on ERP and BI system enhancements, ensuring data integrity across platforms.
- Automate processes and streamline workflows to improve efficiency.
- Maintain strong internal controls within financial operations.
- Work alongside the Group Reporting Manager to ensure accounting standards are followed appropriately.
- Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors as required.
- Assist with tax and statutory reporting where applicable.
- Lead and mentor direct reports, setting clear objectives and regularly discussing performance.

Who We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria:
- Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex information in an easy-to-understand, digestible way.
- Ability to implement new controls/processes in a fast-paced business.
- Commercially focused with strong analytical thinking.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Exceptional planning and organisation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and focus on quality.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) – 3+ years post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in management accounting, ideally within retail, fashion, or FMCG.
- Solid understanding of relevant accounting standards (Group reports under FRS 102) and multi-currency consolidations.
- Advanced Excel skills, with experience using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Strong understanding of multi-channel business models and inventory accounting.
