Senior Management Accountant
Location: Blackburn, Hybrid Working
Company: BBF
Salary: £60,000
Contract: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
About the Role
Proven finance professional with expertise in management accounting and manufacturing finance required to join our thriving team in Blackburn.
In this key leadership role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver financial insights and operational improvements, driving efficiency and growth across our business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
- Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, including P&L statements and balance sheets
- Lead month-end close processes, handling accruals, prepayments, and variance analysis
- Ensure strict compliance with financial controls, policies, and internal procedures
- Provide statutory reporting support and engage with external audit teams
Business Partnering
- Act as a key finance business partner to operational teams and site management
- Deliver financial insights and analytical challenges to support strategic and operational decision-making
- Work closely with production teams to analyse efficiency, waste, and yield performance
- Support Capex projects, payback analysis, and operational profitability evaluations
Costing & Manufacturing Finance
- Maintain and enhance standard costing models for production activities
- Identify and analyse variances (e.g., labour, material, overhead costs) and propose meaningful improvements
- Monitor inventory valuation and stock controls to maintain optimal levels
- Lead cost-reduction efforts and continuous improvement initiatives

Budgeting & Forecasting
- Oversee and drive the annual budgeting process
- Collaborate with department heads to develop realistic and actionable financial plans
- Conduct forecasting cycles, track budget performance, and provide insider analysis and recommendations
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in finance processes and reporting systems
- Champion workflow automation and data analysis improvements
- Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and IT system enhancements
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Fully qualified accountancy professional – ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or the equivalent
- Five or more years of experience in a management accounting role, ideally in manufacturing, particularly within food or FMCG sectors
- Expertise in standard costing and production finance
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex modelling and data analysis
- Experience with ERP systems
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively with non-finance stakeholders
- Exceptional analytical, organisational, and communication skills
