Senior Compliance Manager – Financial Crime & AML
About the Role
Affirm is revolutionising credit by making it fairer, more transparent, and easier to understand. We’re now looking for a Senior Compliance Manager to lead financial crime compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Financial Crime functions in the UK.
As Senior Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Overseeing compliance with FCA regulations
- Leading Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) responsibilities for the UK entity (upon regulatory approval)
- Strengthening financial crime frameworks, monitoring programmes, and risk management
Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Leadership & Oversight
- Serve as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (SMF17) for the UK entity, subject to final approvals
- Provide second-line oversight of the UK financial crimes compliance programme, including AML, sanctions, suspicious activity governance, and related frameworks

Financial Crime Governance & Strategy
- Oversee suspicious activity escalation, governance (including SAR Reviews & MLRO Judgement processes)
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the UK AML and Financial Crime Framework, ensuring alignment with FCA and UK regulatory expectations
- Lead the Financial Crime Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP), ensuring it is risk-aligned with the firm’s appetite, regulatory requirements, and market conditions

Risk & Control Management
- Lead the UK-based Business-Wide Compliance Risk Assessment (BWRA) and control inventory process, including:
- Identifying financial crime risks, gaps, regulatory developments, and governance priorities
- Collaborating with internal & external stakeholders to implement remediation
- Partner with UK compliance and global financial crime leaders to maintain strong onboarding, transaction monitoring, investigations, and screening processes
- Lead the UK-based Business-Wide Compliance Risk Assessment (BWRA) and control inventory process, including:

Strategies, Reporting & Policy
- Prepare and submit the UK entity’s Annual MLRO Report, evaluating AML controls, SAR, training, risk exposure, and regulatory position
- Support regulatory examinations, internal/external audits, and bank partner reviews, including coordination & remediation tracking
- Develop and refine UK financial crime policies, procedures, and governance documentation

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare management reporting, escalation summaries, and governance materials for senior stakeholders
- Partner with Legal for regulatory interpretation and provide balanced challenge to first-line teams
- Support regulator readiness, engagement, and contribute to regulatory interactions

Collaboration & Global Expansion
- Work with the Global Financial Crime Compliance Governance Team to embed the Global Financial Crime Framework
What We Look For
We are seeking an experienced, highly analytical, and regulationally sophisticated candidate with:
- Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of FCA and UK financial crime regulations
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to develop and oversee compliance programmes, risk assessments, and frameworks
- Strategic Mindset: Ability to continuously improve governance and processes
- Framing: Attention to detail, escalation management, and regulatory alignment

Base Pay Grade & Benefits
Base Pay Grade: N Equity Grade: 6
Base Pay ranges (GBR):
Yearly: £120,000 – £168,000
Location:
- Remote UK based
