Director of Product Strategy & Compliance

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Strategy & Compliance Function

    • Mentor and develop a team of up to 6 Product Compliance Leads and specialists
    • Define team priorities, operating models, and development plans for scalable global compliance support
    • Foster culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Define & Drive Product Compliance Strategy

    • Execute and shape a strategic vision for compliance across Remote’s global payroll platform
    • Establish governance models to embed compliance into product lifecycle and development
    • Partner with Product Leadership to align compliance with business and product goals
  • Translate Regulatory Requirements into Product Solutions

    • Interpret and ensure multi-jurisdiction legal/payroll/tax requirements are integrated as clear business requirements
    • Advise Product Managers and Engineering on scalable, compliance-driven product designs
    • Promote consistent, global compliance assessments in products and processes
  • Drive Compliance-by-Design and Product Innovation

    • Guide adherence to regulatory controls in technology and automation frameworks
    • Advocate for reducing manual processes via compliance-by-design principles
    • Identify technology opportunities for scaling compliance efficiency

  • Lead Regulatory Intelligence & Market Readiness

    • Oversee proactive monitoring and assessment of regulatory changes
    • Support country expansion by assessing regulatory feasibility for new markets
    • Partner with stakeholders to implement evolving regulatory compliance measures
  • Act as Strategic Advisor & Cross-Functional Leader

    • Serve as compliance advisor for senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Legal, and Operations
    • Represent compliance on strategic initiatives and roadmap planning
    • Build cross-functional partnerships to align compliance and business objectives

What You Bring

Essential

  • Product Strategy & Compliance Expertise

    • Deep knowledge of multi-jurisdiction payroll, employment, tax, labor compliance
    • Ability to translate complex legislation into product/business requirements
    • Understanding of product development lifecycle and compliance-by-design
    • Comfort balancing compliance with automation, customer experience, and business needs
  • Leadership & Organizational Development

    • Proven track record leading high-performing compliance/payroll teams
    • Strong coaching and mentoring skills for continuous development
    • Experience building governance frameworks and organizational operating models
  • Strategic Thinking & Risk Management

    • Ability to strategically assess and implement regulatory requirements
    • Strong analytical skills for identifying trends, risks, and opportunities
    • Experience successfully influencing stakeholders and prioritizing competing priorities
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication

    • Expertise translating complex compliance into clear business recommendations
    • Skilled at collaborating with Product, Legal, Operations, and executive audiences
    • Ability to build trust and articulate compliance frameworks to diverse stakeholders
