The Opportunity

Our Indirect Tax professionals help clients identify opportunities and mitigate indirect tax risks. They use their deep sector experience and knowledge of different legal and regulatory systems to help clients meet their compliance obligations and achieve their business goals.

The team provides pragmatic, commercially focused support to clients, helping them optimise their day-to-day management of indirect taxes. This includes:

  • Advising on transactions
  • Improving working capital
  • Reducing errors and costs
  • Ensuring tax burdens are correctly managed
  • Assessing how indirect taxes—such as VAT, GST, or other consumption taxes—impact their supply chain, financial, and accounting systems

Your Responsibilities

This role focuses on growing the Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction VAT (RHC) team. As Indirect Tax Manager, your primary responsibilities are split into two areas:


Your People Responsibilities

  • Lead an enthusiastic team – Create, develop, and sustain high-performing groups while fostering collaboration.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery – Day-to-day leadership of your delivery team, promoting accountability and best practices.
  • Develop talent – Effectively supervise, coach, and mentor team members to support their growth.
  • Contribute to people initiatives – Help retain and attract tax professionals through training programs and career development opportunities.

Your Client Responsibilities

  • Manage complex consultancy projects – Oversee high-perplexity work with a focus on technical excellence and a balanced mix of practice and commercial input.
  • Lead M&A transactions – Ensure all indirect tax considerations are addressed, providing strategic direction.
  • Build relationships & client service – Maintain strong engagement with key clients, ensuring exceptional service and trust.
  • Negotiation & stakeholder management – Defend positions confidently, mediate, and advocate for sound business outcomes.
  • Proactive business development – Identify and monetise opportunities with existing clients, acquire new clients, and leverage leads from other practice areas.
  • Internal & external networking – Cultivate a strong network for the team, including partnerships across EY and external contacts.
  • Maximise business value – Drive optimum returns for both EY and clients while balancing risk appropriately.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience – Substantial track record in VAT (or similar consumption taxes) from an accountancy firm or in-house role.
  • Qualifications – One or more of the following:
    • ATT (Tax Associate)
    • ACA (Certified Accountant)
    • CA (Chartered Accountant)
    • Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training
    • Equivalent breadth of experience Non-accountancy routes/equivalent knowledge will also be considered on merit.
