Senior Manager - Regulation Operations and Portfolio Management London/Hybrid
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is advancing into the RIIO-T3 price control period. As part of a pivotal phase of regulatory, operational, and organisational transformation, we’re delivering scaling initiatives like six-month re-opener windows, Connections Reform, and an explicit focus on enhancing regulatory capabilities. We seek a Senior Manager – Portfolio Management & Operations to champion cross-organisational regulatory activity, ensuring we deliver balanced outcomes for both commercial excellence and consumer interests.
One of the most critical roles in the Regulation team, this position will require you to define and drive delivery of a complex portfolio of regulatory change, aligning activity, prioritising initiatives, and ensuring cohesive execution.
salary & benefits
- £93,000 – £114,000 p.a. (dependent on experience).
- Performance-based bonus (up to 40% of base salary).

key responsibilities
- Lead portfolio management, translating strategic priorities into execution roadmaps, tracking progress, and reporting to senior leadership.
- Navigate interdependencies, risks, and issues, developing mitigation plans and escalating where necessary.
- Prioritise by resource alignment, ensuring teams focus on high-impact areas.
- Embed operational excellence across the Regulation function, including governance, reporting, data management, and best practices.
- Establish and run governance frameworks, enabling timely decision-making and clear accountability.
- Oversee major regulatory risks, ensuring controls and assurance processes meet requirements, particularly for T3 Principle Risk.
- Lead end-to-end regulatory programmes, aligning programme delivery with strategy and regulatory needs.
- Develop portfolio and project management capabilities across the team.
- Lead virtual stakeholders across NGET to realise key programme outcomes.
- Collaborate with Executive leaders, Ofgem, and industry bodies to align strategic priorities and commercial imperatives.
necessary experience & skills
- Proven senior programme or portfolio management expertise, ideally within regulated environments.
- Strong track record in delivering complex programmes amid ambiguity and change.
- Expertise in PMO leadership, covering governance, reporting, assurance, and portfolio risk controls.
- Familiarity with RIIO frameworks and the translation of regulation into evidence-based submissions (or swift onboarding capability).
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills for Executive-level influence.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving capabilities, adept at managing trade-offs and competing priorities.
- Experience in building high-performance teams and operational frameworks.
