Attraction Technical Management Role – Show & Ride Systems | Universal Destinations & Experiences

Position Summary
Provides technical management—including budget and schedule oversight—for an attraction or multiple attractions. The Attraction Technical Lead ensures the successful specification, bidding, design, production, installation, and acceptance testing of ride and show systems, covering areas such as set/scenery, props, and scenic implementation. The role involves managing a team of direct reports responsible for various technical specialized aspects of attractions.
Major Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Ensures all rugged, ride, and scenic systems meet the highest safety standards in alignment with Universal specifications, manufacturing best practices, and applicable industry regulations.
- Oversees schematic inspections and acceptance testing procedures to confirm adherence to safety protocols.

Technical & Vendor Management
- Provides technical guidance and manages vendor relationships from inception through installation, including design initiatives, fabrication, and fieldwork.
- Participates in technical and contract management across vendor contracts, directives, and change orders.
- Collaborates with project teams, subcontractors, and third-party vendors to ensure seamless communication during installation, testing, and adjustments.
Program Coordination
- Develops scope of work documents, awards vendor contracts based on quantitative requirements derived from creative intent, and champions Universal specifications.
- Enforces show and ride technical principles and safety rules to deliver high-quality, compliant products.
- Monitors risk status and engineering quality of show/ride attractions, addressing potential hazards proactively.
Team Leadership & Facilitation
- Builds team cohesion and motivates attraction technical teams comprised of specialists managing rockwork, scenic facades, set systems, and thematic elements.
- Establishes a culture of safety and collaboration with the facility, construction, and vendor teams.
Environmental Responsibilities
- Actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives, adhering to UDX policies and training.
Miscellaneous
- Addresses ad hoc requests not otherwise outlined.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable technical field (example: Technical Theater, Architecture, Set/Scenic Design, Building Construction) or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
Experience
- Extensive experience in theme park-specific technical/engineering, particularly scenic implementations, e.g.:
- Rockwork
- Artistic and structural facades
- Themed concrete plaster
- Scenic attractions
- Prop systems
- Preference for candidates with construction industry experience, especially in contract management or similar roles.

- Highly preferred: Track record in riding events or attractions based environments.
Specific Experience & Skills

Must-Haves:
- Skilled in vendor management, including insitu installation oversight.
- Proven ability in dangerous task contract negotiation and administration.

Strong analytical skills for interpreting technical documentation (blueprints, drawings, specifications).

Demonstrated ability to identify problems, implement solutions, and validate outcomes.

Advanced proficiency in:
- Managing complex projects across multiple vendors.
- Contract terms, RFPs, caveats of contracts.
- Scheduling, risk management, internal client communications.
Competencies
- Competent decision-maker who can sway stakeholders in an influence-intense environment.
- Well-organized under uncertainty, adapting to dynamic project changes.
