The Senior Manager, Sustainability & Social Value – UK & Ireland

The Senior Manager, Sustainability & Social Value – UK & Ireland will support the UK & Ireland leadership team in understanding and fulfilling their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) responsibilities. The role ensures ESG requirements are fully integrated into customer-facing activities, including tendering and procurement processes. This position will drive alignment between Stryker’s UK Sustainability and Social Value strategy, the global sustainability framework, and relevant UK & Ireland requirements.

Working across Business Units and enabling functions, the role operates with delegated authority from the Managing Director, UK & Ireland, to set UK ESG standards, challenge decisions, and promote consistent ESG alignment where customer expectations or risk considerations apply. The role supports Stryker in meeting evolving NHS, regulatory, and customer sustainability expectations, while aligning with the company’s global Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability strategy to enable continued growth across the UK & Ireland.

As the lead for ESG, this role sets the agenda, drives internal alignment, engages suppliers in collaboration with relevant teams, escalates material ESG-related risks, exceptions, or non-alignment to the UK & Ireland Leadership Team, with recommendations for resolution. They will also represent Stryker externally with customers, procurement bodies, and industry stakeholders.

This role will deliver:

  • Opportunity to lead ESG for one of the NHS’s most significant MedTech partners.
  • High-visibility role with direct impact on customer relationships and business performance.
  • Strong global ESG foundations combined with meaningful local ownership.
  • Assessment of future ESG resourcing and capability needs and make recommendations to UK & Ireland leadership as the agenda evolves.

Key responsibilities

UK ESG Strategy, Ownership & Governance

  • Own and lead the execution of Stryker’s ESG agenda across the UK and Ireland, including development and delivery of a clear UK & Ireland ESG roadmap to 2050 net zero commitment, aligned to global sustainability strategy and governance frameworks.
  • Accountable for UK & Ireland ESG reporting, both mandatory and voluntary, including but not limited to; the UK Modern Slavery Statement and UK Carbon Reduction Plan, ensuring submissions are complete, accurate, and approved.
  • Works in close coordination with Corporate teams like Legal, Sustainability and ESG Global Reporting Team, who provide methodologies, controls, and global alignment support.
  • Act as the senior point of accountability for ESG matters within the UK & Ireland business.
  • In coordination with the ESG Global Reporting Team, own and lead development, approval and publication of ESG reporting for UK & Ireland, including, without limitation, UK Modern Slavery Reporting and the UK Carbon Reduction Plan Template

Customer Sustainability Requirements

  • Own Stryker’s readiness and performance against customer sustainability requirements, including NHS’ Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment, Carbon Reduction Plans, and Social Value.
  • Lead ESG input into major NHS tenders and customer engagements, working closely with Commercial and Tendering teams.
  • Act as Stryker’s senior ESG representative with NHS customers, procurement bodies, and key public-sector stakeholders.

Internal Stakeholder Leadership

  • Operate as a senior business partner to UK & Ireland leadership, influencing commercial, supply chain and functional decisions to embed ESG into how Stryker operates and competes.
  • Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Sales and Marketing teams to deliver ESG priorities through the wider business.
  • Build understanding and ownership of ESG requirements across internal stakeholders.

Supplier & Value Chain Engagement

  • Lead the UK & Ireland supplier sustainability agenda by setting expectations, priorities, and requirements in alignment with global programmes.
  • Delivery and direct supplier engagement are undertaken in partnership with Procurement and Sustainability teams.
  • Work with Procurement and Supply Chain teams to drive supplier engagement and mobilisation in alignment with global procurement teams, global programs, and third-party platforms.
  • Identify ESG risks and opportunities within the value chain and drive appropriate mitigation or improvement actions.

External Representation & Influence

  • Represent Stryker in relevant industry forums, working groups and trade associations.
  • Monitor evolving UK sustainability regulation, NHS policy and industry best practice, ensuring Stryker remains ahead of market expectations.
  • Share market insights and implications with UK & Ireland and global stakeholders.

What you need

Essential

  • Experience in ESG, sustainability or responsible business roles within the UK.
  • Demonstrable experience engaging with NHS or UK public sector procurement sustainability requirements, including Evergreen, CRPs and Social Value.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive delivery in matrixed, cross functional organisations.
  • Experience working with external customers, suppliers and industry bodies.

Desirable

  • Background in med tech, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing or similarly regulated industries.
  • Experience with net zero strategies, Scope 3 emissions, supplier ESG programmes and value chain sustainability.
  • Professional qualifications in sustainability, ESG, environmental management or related disciplines.

Work Flexibility

Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace.

These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.

Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary.

Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.

Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility.

Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.

Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility.
