Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Lockheed Martin (UK) Ampthill
Location: Ampthill, Bedfordshire, UK Salary: £53K - £57K p/a + BUPA, bonus and benefits Contract: 37.5 hours per week Option: 4-day working week (Mon-Thurs)

The Manufacturing Engineering Team
The Operations Engineering team provides end-to-end engineering support:
- Through product design, engineering build, and production lifecycle management
- Key functions span prototyping, build documentation, and post-product end-of-life support
- Focuses on cost reduction and yield improvement at all product lifecycle stages
Key Responsibilities
This key engineering role positions the successful candidate as the primary technical contact for manufacturing-related matters, ensuring:
- Skilled problem-solving, change management, and alignment with programme milestones
- Clear support for right-first-time quality standards and cost-efficient production

Core Duties & Task Lead:
- Process Development
- Define and implement manufacturing processes, including sequence of operations, flow optimisation, and lean philosophies
- Create technical diagrams for equipment installation, material handling, and assembly layouts
- Production & Engineering Estimates
- Supply Basis of Estimates for operations across multiple technologies and disciplines
- Tooling & Documentation
- Identify new tooling/fixturing requirements
- Draft Technical Requirement Specifications and detailed process instructions
- Develop Manufacturing BOMs and routing plans to streamline production
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Provide support as part of Level 1 & 2 MDWT (Mission-Directed Work Team) meetings
- Contribute to technology roadmap improvements and capital plan requirements analysis
- Engage with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, and other departments
- Performance & Culture
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives through methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Conduct process reviews, documentation updates, and quality assurance activities
Key Requirements & Skills
- Technical Expertise:
- Comprehensive knowledge of detailed assembly processes (electro-mechanical, bonding)
- Proficiency in CAD software for generating 2D technical drawings
- Ability to analyze MRP systems and manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) in SAP (or similar ERP)
- Industry Best Practices:
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and quality improvement rigor
- Leadership Qualities:
- Drivers of cultural/process change, prioritising efficiency and high-adherence quality standards
- Bonus Attributes (°Not mandatory, but beneficial):
- Composite processing experience

Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (UK-accredited) in a relevant discipline or equivalent done mixed education/industry experience
- 5 years professional experience + Bachelor’s or
- 3 years professional experience + Master’s degree
- Modeled under a career/journey-level classification (considered as intermediate-level professional).
