Senior Manufacturing Engineer (BOM & Process Design)
About the Role
Join Prestwick Aerosystems, one of Ayrshire’s largest engineering employers and part of the Airbus family, where we manufacture aircraft wing structures for Airbus commercial aircraft worldwide. We’re seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to ensure high-quality aerospace production through rigorous engineering controls and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management and development of accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) in our ERP system.
- Guarantee the deployment of valid Engineering Processes and their detailed routing to meet MRPII disciplines.
- Manage and process Engineering Changes, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and internal agreements.
- Implement Continuous Improvement Toolsets (e.g., Seven Wastes) to enhance productivity and product quality—both internally and within the supply chain.
- Translate design data (e.g., CAD/CATIA specifications) into clear, actionable work instructions for manufacturing to meet customer and regulatory standards (e.g., Boeing/Airbus compliance).
- Support the Quality & Engineering Team Leader in managing personnel issues such as Production Design Review (PDR), training, and WTMS responsibilities.

- Technical Documentation: Convert engineering design and specifications into encapsulated work instructions for compliant manufacturing.
- Supplier Coordination: Maintain, develop, and compile detailed work packages for external production, including Conditions of Supply for suppliers.
- Process Optimisation: Develop production smoothing methods and Kanban systems to improve efficiency.
- Non-Conforming Management: Aid the MRB (Material Review Board) process by providing engineering solutions for rework, scrap mitigation, and prevention of non-compliant products.
- Technical Governance: Oversee new technical package introductions—both internal and external—covering financial control, vendor selection, monitoring, and defining procedural safeguards.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: HNC or equivalent in a engineering-related discipline.
- Experience: Proven track record of manufacturing engineering with direct involvement in process optimisation, production control, or BOM management.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access—extended use of spreadsheets for data management).
- Familiarity with engineering systems, continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Six Wastes).
- Awareness of drawing & inspection methods used by Boeing and Airbus standards.
- Soft Skills: Analytical mindset, clear communication, customer-centric approach, and a focus on bot h internal and external stakeholder alignment.
