SYR are proud to be representing a specialist boat builder renowned for designing and manufacturing premium custom-built vessels, including luxury superyacht tenders, high-performance rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) and bespoke leisure craft.
Every project is tailored to meet the unique requirements of discerning clients, combining innovative engineering, exceptional craftsmanship and uncompromising quality. Their RIBs combine advanced composite construction with premium marine-grade fittings to deliver exceptional strength-to-weight ratios, offshore durability and performance.
As their business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Marine Engineer to support the technical delivery of our bespoke vessels from concept through to production and sea trials.
Role Overview
The Senior Marine Engineer will provide technical expertise throughout the build process, ensuring that marine systems are engineered, integrated and delivered to the highest standards. Working closely with design, production, project management and suppliers, you will be responsible for developing practical engineering solutions, supporting manufacturing and ensuring compliance with relevant marine standards.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring extensive experience in marine engineering, mechanical systems, propulsion integration and bespoke vessel construction.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering
- Engineer and specify propulsion systems, steering, fuel, hydraulic, cooling and mechanical systems.
- Produce and maintain engineering drawings, installation details and technical documentation.
- Develop installation information for production teams.
- Review engineering solutions to ensure manufacturability, reliability and ease of maintenance.
- Ensure engineering work complies with relevant ISO standards, MCA requirements and CE/UKCA regulations where applicable.
- Carry out engineering calculations relating to system performance, weight distribution and installation requirements.

Project Support
- Support engineering activities throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Production teams to resolve technical issues.
- Attend technical meetings with customers, suppliers and classification bodies where required.
- Provide engineering support during vessel build, commissioning and sea trials.
- Investigate and resolve engineering issues throughout production.
Systems Integration
- Specify and integrate:
- Diesel and petrol propulsion systems
- Waterjet and sterndrive propulsion
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Fuel systems
- Freshwater and plumbing systems
- HVAC (where applicable)
- Navigation equipment
- Marine electronics
Technical Support
- Provide guidance and technical support to engineers and production personnel.
- Review engineering documentation for technical accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and installation methods.
- Support research and development of new products, systems and technologies.
Supplier & Customer Liaison
- Liaise with engine manufacturers and equipment suppliers.
- Evaluate new marine technologies and components.
- Support customer meetings by providing technical expertise.
- Assist with warranty investigations and root cause analysis where required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Degree or apprenticeship in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant experience in marine engineering, preferably within bespoke or luxury vessel construction.
- Strong understanding of marine propulsion systems and vessel systems integration.
- Experience integrating complex marine mechanical systems.
- Excellent knowledge of marine regulations and standards.
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable
- Experience with superyacht tenders, luxury yacht construction or high-performance RIBs.
- Knowledge of composite boat construction.
- Experience with waterjet propulsion systems.
- Familiarity with Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Mercury, Cox Marine or similar propulsion packages.
- Understanding of electrical integration and CANbus systems.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
