About The Role
Assurance Services is a department of approximately 170 people dedicated to assurance services across various sectors. Our department is organized into two sections: the Project Assurance section, which provides the assurance services from the new building design phase up to the commissioning phase of assets, and the Asset Assurance section, which focuses on providing assurance services for operating assets such as offshore platforms, ships & onshore gas networks. Our complete cycle of services makes us a key contributor to the management of the energy trilemma (energy reliability, affordability, and sustainability) and energy transition. Our markets cover a broad range of energy sectors including upstream Oil & Gas, offshore Renewable Energy and any applications serving the energy industry.
Our Opportunity
As an engineer in our Dynamic Positioning team, you will join a team of specialists who love finding innovative solutions to our energy industry’s most challenging problems. Based from our Aberdeen office, you’ll be collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, helping to deliver career and industry-defining projects to help Safeguard Life, Property and Environment.
You will use your marine engineering expertise to support the delivery of Dynamic Positioning (DP) System assurance activities, helping clients verify that their vessels’ Dynamic Positioning systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with industry standards. This will include reviewing technical documentation, attending vessels to witness trials, and acting as an independent technical authority for DP system assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend vessels, as independent witness, recording results from approved trials programmes
- Review FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis) and Trials programmes in line with industrial guidelines
- FMEA development, including FMEA and Proving Trials authoring
- Review and author IMCA M190 / M191 compliant trials programmes
- Additional:
- Offshore client rep attendances
- Development of marine operating procedures, method statements, and risk assessments
- Perform SIMOPS assessments and marine risk evaluations for multi-vessel operations.

About You
Our team is comprised of specialists from a variety of technical backgrounds and experience. This diversity aids our thinking and approach when engaging with clients and finding solutions to their technical needs. What they do share is our commitment to safeguarding life, property and the environment, a passion for solving technical problems and an eagerness to grow and develop within a dynamic environment. In addition to that we look for you to bring:
- A solid marine operational background, ideally gained on offshore support vessels (e.g., Drillship, Dive Vessel, PLV, CLV, AHTS, SOV) at the level of Chief Engineer / Second Engineer would be desirable
- Up-to-date knowledge of marine regulatory and statutory requirements (Class rules), industry assurance standards, and guidelines (IMCA / OCIMF / MTS)
- Experience of reviewing or developing FMEA studies
- Familiarity with closed-bus power systems and battery/hybrid installations (highly advantageous)
- A collaborative, service-minded approach with the ability to simplify complex issues and offer solutions. Experience delivering and selling consultancy / advisory services would be advantageous
- Strong communication and client facing skills. Proficient in technical report writing, demonstrating fluent English in both written and verbal form
- Self-driven and motivated to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Current offshore safety certification is desirable; (i.e. BOSIET / FOET / GWO)
The nature of your role will require you to hold a current/valid ENG1 or OEUK Medical for offshore work.
Please note that the consultancy/advisory nature of our work means that while offering flexibility and hybrid working opportunities, proximity to our Aberdeen office and clients are important. While the role is primarily office based, you will undertake regular domestic and international travel, often required at short notice.
