The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer to join the Energy, Water and Resources team in our Liverpool office or another UK North office.
This is an exciting chance to drive technical solutions across a wide range of projects, collaborating with colleagues specialising in coastal and maritime/port engineering. As a member of a fast-growing team, you’ll influence key developments in coastal schemes, flood protection, and port infrastructure.
Your role will cover the full project lifecycle, from advisory services at early design stages to/client support during construction. You will work directly with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, port operators, financial institutions, contractors, and public sector bodies.
Responsibilities
- Deliver project work from early concept design through to detailed design and construction-phase support
- Provide technical leadership in civil and maritime engineering, including:
- Designs
- Calculations
- Models
- Reports
- Drawings
- Manage project design activities, ensuring high-quality technical outputs and reporting
- Oversee project commercial management, tracking progress, costs, programme, and budget compliance
- Plan and resource teams, managing deliverables with cross-disciplinary collaboration

Additionally, you’ll:
- Mentor and develop less-experienced engineers
- Represent Arup with technical expertise and collaboration
Is This Role Right For You?
What We Are Seeking
- BEng/MSc/MEng degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (or progress toward Chartership)
- Proven experience in:
- Coastal, maritime, or offshore projects (e.g., breakwaters, flood defences, quays, jetties, dredging, scour protection)
- Producing technical documentation (reports, calculations, drawings, specifications)
- Physical modelling and metocean/wave/sediment transport analysis
- Mentorship of junior engineers or equivalent professional support experience
- Ability to manage small projects or work packages in multidisciplinary teams
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Passion for maritime and port infrastructure projects
Note: Applicants with transferable experience in civil engineering from other sectors are encouraged to apply.
