Senior Maritime Civil Engineer

Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Arup’s Maritime business is experiencing significant growth across the UK and beyond, with an annual 10-20% growth rate projected to continue. Our project pipeline spans coastal resilience and engineering, port development for the energy sector, passenger transport, defence and more.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer to join the Energy, Water and Resources team in our Liverpool office or in one of our other offices across the UK North.

This is an opportunity to join our team and deliver technical solutions across a wide range of projects. You will work with colleagues with a focus on:

  • Coastal engineering
  • Maritime and ports projects

This is an exciting time of change, and via your work, you will have the chance to positively influence the shaping of coastal schemes, flood protection, and port developments. A willingness to learn and grow in this fast-growing area of work is essential.

You will have the opportunity to work across all stages of the project lifecycle, from advisory services and concept design for clients at early stages, through to detailed design and construction phase support. In this role, you will collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and thought leaders, including clients like:

  • Government agencies
  • Local councils
  • Port owners/operators
  • Financial institutions
  • Contractors
  • Public sector bodies

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Project delivery: Coordinate work from early concept design to detailed design and construction support.
  • Technical leadership: Lead civil/maritime engineering designs, calculations, models, reports, and drawings.
  • Design management and delivery: Ensure high-quality technical designs and detailed reporting.
  • Commercial project management: Monitor progress and costs against programme and budget.
  • Team planning & resourcing: Manage deliverables through collaboration with supporting disciplines.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
