The Opportunity

Arup are seeking a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer to join their Energy, Water and Resources team, based in Liverpool or any UK North office. This role offers:

  • A chance to contribute to high-impact maritime, coastal engineering, and port development projects.
  • Early influence over coastal schemes, flood protection, and port structures.
  • Project flexibility, from advisory services and concept design to detailed design and construction phase support.
  • Collaborative work with internal colleagues, external stakeholders, and leading industry professionals (e.g., governments, port operators, contractors).

Responsibilities

Key tasks include:

  • Technical design and delivery from early concept stages through to construction support.
  • Technical leadership for civil and maritime engineering designs, including:
    • Calculations, models, reports, and detailed drawings.
  • Project management, ensuring high-quality technical outputs and adherence to budgets, schedules, and commercial expectations.
  • Collaborative team planning, resourcing, and delivery management, engaging supporting disciplines.

Is This Role Right for You?

Required Skills and Experience

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or related field), BEng/MEng/MS.
  • Current or soon-to-be Chartered Engineer (CEng).
  • 5+ years of experience in:
    • Coastal, maritime, or offshore projects (e.g., breakwaters, flood defences, quay walls, dredging, scour protection).
    • Technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Specialised knowledge in:
    • Physical modelling.
    • Metocean, wave dynamics, and sediment transport analysis.
  • Strong ability to mentor or support junior engineers effectively.
  • Project-management experience (leading work packages, budgets, stakeholder coordination).
  • Proven skills in interdisciplinary collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
