Senior Maritime Civil Engineer – Energy, Water and Resources Team

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer to join our Liverpool office or one of our other UK North offices. This role offers an opportunity to:

  • Deliver technical solutions across a diverse range of maritime and port projects.
  • Shape the future of coastal schemes, flood protections, and port developments.
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members.
  • Work on projects at all stages of the lifecycle, from advisory services and concept design through to detailed design and construction support.

You will collaborate with industry leaders, government agencies, councils, port operators, contractors, financial institutions, and public sector bodies to deliver impactful projects.


Responsibilities

As Senior Maritime Civil Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design & Technical Leadership

    • Deliver project work from early concept design to detailed design and construction support.
    • Provide technical leadership in civil/maritime engineering – including designs, calculations, models, reports, and drawings.
    • Ensure high-quality technical output through robust project design management.
  • Project Management

    • Commercial management – monitor progress and costs against programme and budget.
    • Team planning and resourcing, managing deliverables through collaboration with supporting disciplines.

  • Stakeholder & Knowledge Sharing
    • Assist colleagues through technical collaboration.
    • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional growth.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (BEng, MEng, MSc).

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards Chartership.

  • Proven experience in:

    • Coastal, maritime, or offshore engineering projects (e.g., breakwaters, flood defences, quay walls, jetties, dredging, scour protection).
    • Technical reporting (e.g., reports, calculations, drawings, specifications).
    • Physical modelling and preferences:
      • (Metocean) wave analysis, hydraulic modelling, and sediment transport assessments.
    • Mentoring/supporting junior engineers.
    • Small project management and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Passion for maritime and port infrastructure.

Preferred Skills

  • Transferable civil engineering expertise from other sectors (e.g., highways, water, reversals).
