What you do as a Senior Maritime Civil Engineer
Your role will involve utilising your technical and practical experience to develop engineering design solutions for maritime civil engineering structures in ports and shipyards, utilising materials such as steel, concrete, and timber in accordance with relevant design codes. You will contribute to all project stages, from inception through design and construction to demolition, recycling, and reuse. Your technical and commercial experience, along with your ability to liaise with multi-disciplinary teams, will be vital to the success of the projects you work on. Additionally, you will have the autonomy and responsibility to work on projects that interest you and produce proposals while working directly with our clients.
Furthermore, you will:
- Collect and collate design data
- Carry out inspections and surveys
- Produce design calculations, check and review calculations produced by others
- Produce outline models, drawings, and details for CAD (in Revit environment if possible); check and review these before issue
- Prepare draft Bills of Quantities, Contract Documents, and Specifications
- Prepare reports and presentations
- Undertake structural analyses and reporting
- Provide engineering judgement and advice; contribute to preparation of study reports
In addition to the above, you will have the opportunity to manage and direct junior staff, as well as coach them in technical matters.

We have provided expert commercial, technical, and operational advice, as well as developed master plans across five continents for a diverse range of port projects.
We are one of the largest and most experienced teams of port planning professionals and engineers globally and we are world leaders in the production of port feasibility studies, master plans and designs.
As our new Senior Maritime Civil Engineer, you will become part of our Maritime UK Advisory Group, located in one of our five offices across the United Kingdom.
What you bring
You are a skilled communicator, both in writing and verbally, and a great team player who is commercially astute. You have professional experience in planning and designing maritime structures and are familiar with international maritime and structural engineering standards and manuals. You are willing to travel occasionally throughout the UK and overseas.
Essential:
- An educational background in Civil/Structural Engineering (BSc, Beng, MSc, CEngMice or CEng MiStructE)
- Professional experience in planning and design of maritime structures
- Familiarity with international maritime and structural engineering standards, manuals, and other relevant guidelines

Desirable:
- At least 5 years of experience
- Knowledge/Experience of working at BIM Level 2
- Maritime-specific civil engineering experience will be an advantage
- Awareness of industry procedures and best practice
- Demonstrable experience in applying technology to improve productivity
- Excellent technical track record
