Senior Market and Customer Researcher – Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) Research & Insights

We’re partnering with Hackajob to find exceptional professionals for this pivotal role within our world-leading Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) Insights team.
About the Role
AJ Bell’s D2C Insights team comprises subject-matter experts in data, insights, and research—ensuring that deep customer understanding and insight-driven analysis inform every strategic decision. Now we’re seeking a bold, strategic researcher to lead and scale our research capabilities.
Can you step into our shoes?
This Senior Market and Customer Researcher will: ✔ Lead cutting-edge research initiatives—think market analysis, continuous surveys, interviews, focus groups—and other qualitative and quantitative studies ✔ Gather authentic insights that reveal what really matters to our customers ✔ Bridge research and business impact—delivering actionable intelligence that shapes product development, customer experience, and overall strategy
You’ll be our voice of the customer, embedding insights directly into our business operations. But more than just analysis, you’ll build relationships—collaborating with product, marketing, and digital teams to ensure every project adds value.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead mixed-method research – designing and delivering market analysis, surveys, interviews, focus groups, and internal data assessments
- Work closely with product, marketing, and leadership teams – turning their needs into high-quality research briefs
- Quantitative research expertise:
- Design and execute surveys, optimising questionnaire coding, data capture, and analysis
- Manage always-on research and trigger-based surveys
- Qualitative research mastery:
- Develop stimulus materials and discussion guides
- Facilitate face-to-face and virtual individual/group interviews
- Sharp desk research skills – leveraging public, third-party, and internal datasets to uncover market and consumer trends
- Champion customer insights – ensuring they drive decisions in senior forums
- Strengthen our VoC – supporting always-on programs, refining survey platforms, and piloting new data sources
- Collaborate across the business – translating research into compelling UX, product, and customer experience strategies
- Continuous improvement – evaluating data services, agency partnerships, and tools for better quality

Requirements & Experience
While you’re unlikely to tick every box on this list, the following competencies and experiences will help you thrive here.
Essential
- Strong experience leading end-to-end research projects – blending secondary research, qualitative, and quantitative data
- Understanding both voice of customer (VoC) and commercial needs – bridging research with business impact
- Hands-on experience in quantitative research – questionnaire development, survey building, and data analysis
- Mastery of qualitative research methods – both virtual and in-person interviews, focus groups, and recruitment expertise
- Desk research skills – comfortable combining public, secondary, and internal customer data sources
- Robust analytical skills – translating data into clear, actionable insights
- Project and time management – juggling multiple research initiatives effortlessly
- Ability to engage stakeholders effectively — from writing research proposals to presenting findings — ensuring they understand and utilise insights
Advantages

- B2B research experience – familiarity with commercial client needs
- Knowledge of customer panels – has ran or managed a customer panel program
