Senior Matrimonial Lawyer – Family Law Specialist
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Matrimonial Lawyer specialising in family law, particularly in:
- Divorce & separation
- Child custody
- Financial settlements
To join their team in either their Nelson (Head Office) or new Salford office.
Role Overview
This position requires a lawyer with a strong background in handling complex matrimonial cases, including legal advice, court representation, and mediation.
The role blends office-based work with court appearances, with travel for client consultations and hearings. A high level of commitment is expected, including flexible hours to meet deadlines and client needs.
Key Responsibilities
Client Management
- Conduct initial consultations, assessing client needs, and providing tailored legal advice.
- Outline possible case outcomes and next steps for clients.
- Offer emotional support and guidance during marital breakdowns.
Case Handling
- Manage a caseload of matrimonial matters from start to resolution.
- Ensure timely and efficient progression of cases.
- Conduct thorough legal research to strengthen case strategies.
- Stay updated on changes in family law legislation.

Legal Representation & Advocacy
- Draft accurate legal documents (e.g., divorce petitions, financial disclosures).
- Represent clients in:
- Court hearings
- Mediations
- Negotiations
- Advocate for clients’ best interests while aiming for amicable resolutions.
Negotiation & Advisory Work
- Negotiate settlements on asset division, spousal maintenance, and child support.
- Provide expert advice on complex matrimonial law issues.
Team & Professional Support
- Supervise and train junior team members.
- Collaborate with barristers, solicitors, and other legal professionals.
- Oversee department financial performance (budgeting, profitability).
- Ensure SRA compliance and adherence to ethical standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience & Legal Expertise
- Minimum 5+ years in family law, with a track record in complex matrimonial cases.
- In-depth knowledge of English family law practices, including:
- Divorce & financial settlements
- Child custody & support arrangements
- Pre-nuptial & post-nuptial agreements

Education & Licensing
- Degree in law (preferred with additional qualifications in family law).
- Admitted solicitor on the roll of solicitors in England & Wales.
- Compliant with ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) requirements.
