High-Stakes Leadership Opportunity in Building Services Engineering

About the Role

The University of Liverpool is seeking an experienced Senior Building Services Professional to take on a high-impact leadership and project delivery role within its Capital Projects Team (part of Property and Campus Services).

The University of Liverpool manages a diverse and complex property portfolio, spanning:

  • A main campus in Liverpool City Centre
  • Multiple satellite sites
  • Over 300 buildings (totaling 460,000 m²) across a 255-hectare site
  • Heritage-listed Georgian and Victorian buildings
  • Research laboratories
  • Modern conservation areas

The Engineering Services Group, reporting to the Head of Engineering Services, provides professional mechanical & electrical engineering support across:

  • Major Capital Projects (£25k–£120M schemes)
  • Minor capital and refurbishment projects

The successful candidate will collaborate with:

  • Capital and Minor Works Project Managers
  • Mechanical & Electrical Consultants
  • Maintenance Surveyors

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality, safe, and on-time delivery of projects on budget and to the highest standards.
  • Coordinate the development of standard mechanical & electrical specifications in alignment with university policies.
  • Lead technical decision-making for buildings services within academic and operational environments.
  • Quality assurance and risk management across project delivery portfolios.
  • Supportary strong interdepartmental collaboration with internal teams (engineering, maintenance, architecture) and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven industry leadership in building services engineering, preferably within large, complex organisations.
  • Substantial experience in project delivery (construction, new build, and refurbishment) of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Professional qualification in building services (e.g., CIBSE, IEEM, BEng/MSc).
  • Experience in academic, laboratory, or technical environments is a specific advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • ** Strong understanding of campus environments and historical/relics construction challenges**.
