Join Britain’s Biggest Construction Project - HS2 - Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Now is a fantastic time to join our team. We’re continuing construction, and are progressing into handing over some key assets, but there’s still a huge programme of important work to deliver. We need experienced professionals to help complete HS2 bridges, viaducts and other major assets. Join a team of over 2,000 BBV colleagues from over 75 nationalities shaping this key section of HS2.

Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey via the existing rail network to destinations including Manchester.

Role Title: Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

Coordinate the design and engineering activities on the Pumping Stations and Portal Buildings. Assist and support the Design Manager to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the design.

Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate the design and engineering activities for pumping stations and portal buildings.
  • Review designs from consultants, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Promote safe-by-design principles and support technical assurance processes.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support design approvals.
  • Support procurement, construction and delivery teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable.

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience delivering complex infrastructure, construction or building services projects within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong understanding of design management, technical assurance and engineering best practice.
  • Ability to review and optimise engineering solutions while balancing project requirements, risk and delivery objectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure or rail projects, and knowledge of pumping stations, utility infrastructure or similar assets, would be advantageous
