Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Permanent Role
(Birmingham, Operating Globally Across UK & International Markets)

An established automotive engineering business specialising in the supply of proprietary systems and components for:
- Construction equipment
- Trucks
- Agricultural machinery
- Industrial applications
With a global manufacturing presence including the USA, Germany, UK, Sweden, India, and China, the company is part of a growing successful business focused on innovation in mechanical engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
Key Duties & Tasks
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
- Design engine ancillaries, including:
- Oil pumps
- Water pumps
- Fuel pumps
- Develop concept and detailed designs for electronic pumps (e:Pumps) for data centre applications
- Apply first-principles-based concept design using strong problem-solving skills
- Optimise designs for manufacture in collaboration with the engineering team
- Resolve design issues in consultation with the design team and Chief Engineer
- Create CAD models and engineering drawings for project requirements
- Generate technical specifications and engineering reports
- Liaise with:
- External customers
- Internal departments
- External suppliers
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) expertise
- Ensure adherence to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards

Requirements
Essential & Preferred Qualifications
- Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience in mechanical engineering (proven in your CV)
- Proficient use of one of the leading 3D CAD modelling packages (preferably Creo)
- Experience designing with both metals and plastics
- Strong conceptual design skills
- Experience working with rotating mechanical components (e.g., bearings, seals, gears, pulleys, shafts) is advantageous
