Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Derby, UK
Salary: £60,000 D.O.E
Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation specialising in turbomachinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full design process from initial concept through to production ensuring all designs meet technical, manufacturing, and customer requirements. This role offers the chance to lead high-impact projects while mentoring junior engineers within a collaborative and innovative environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Create, update, and maintain mechanical designs and detailed drawings.
- Lead design activities across the full product lifecycle, from concept to manufacture.
- Manage multiple complex design projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time / in budget.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define and document design requirements.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.

Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in turbomachinery design.
- Proficient in CAD (NX experience highly advantageous).
- Strong organisational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to liaise confidently with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel occasionally across the UK and Europe.
