Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
An established and rapidly growing Building Services contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its in-house design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong engineer to play a key role in delivering high-profile projects across:
- Commercial
- Healthcare

About the Role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with:
- Project delivery teams
- Clients
- Consultants
- Supply chain partners
To lead the mechanical design process, provide technical expertise, and support successful project delivery across the UK.
Responsibilities
Core Design & Coordination
- Lead the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems, including:
- HVAC
- Heating and cooling systems
- Ventilation systems
- Public health services
- Domestic water services
- Above and below ground drainage
Technical Outputs
- Produce and review detailed:
- Mechanical designs
- Calculations
- Specifications
- Schedules
- Technical reports
Stage-Range Delivery
- Develop designs from RIBA Stage 2 through to construction (Stage 5)

Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure designs adhere to:
- Current legislation
- Regulations
- British Standards
- Industry best practice
Technical Analysis & Modelling
- Carry out:
- Thermal modelling
- Pipe sizing
- Ductwork sizing
- Pressure loss calculations
- Equipment selection
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with electrical, public health, structural, and architectural disciplines
Client & Project Engagement
- Attend and lead client, consultant, and project meetings as the mechanical design representative
Operational Support
- Provide technical support to:
- Project managers
- Procurement teams
- Site-based delivery teams
Supplier & Technology Management
- Review subcontractor and supplier technical submissions
Team Development
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers within the team
Value Engineering & Efficiency
- Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining regulatory compliance and performance targets
Tender & Bid Support
- Assist with tender submissions and technical bid support where necessary

Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent (HNC/HND) in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in:
- Building Services Design
- Commercial and industrial MEP projects
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of:
- HVAC
- Mechanical building services systems
- Current Building Regulations
- CIBSE guidance
- British Standards
Software Skills
- Proficient in:
- AutoCAD
- Revit MEP
- Hevacomp
- IES VE
- Cymap
- Familiarity with MagiCAD desirable
Soft Skills
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Practical Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
