Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: West Midlands
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000
Full-Time | Onsite

Automation | Robotics | Special Purpose Machinery

Want to design machines that don't exist yet?

If you're the type of engineer who enjoys solving problems others can't, leading projects from concept to commissioning, and seeing your designs come to life on the shop floor, this could be the role you've been waiting for.

We're working with a highly respected automation engineering business that designs and builds bespoke robotic and automated manufacturing systems for leading manufacturers across automotive, medical, healthcare, and advanced industrial sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking to appoint a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering innovative automation projects.

This isn't a role where you'll be producing the same designs repeatedly.

You'll be leading the design and delivery of complex automation projects, working on custom-built machinery, robotics integration, and innovative manufacturing solutions that challenge conventional engineering thinking.

The Opportunity

As the lead mechanical design authority on your projects, you'll take ownership from initial concept through to customer handover.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
