We love seeing our talents develop and succeed and you will have opportunities to work on challenging and inspiring projects within an environment that is friendly, open and supportive.
Job Description
Bring your mechanical building‑services design expertise to Ramboll’s UK Healthcare team and help deliver sustainable, future‑ready healthcare projects across the UK and overseas. You’ll work on a varied portfolio — from major new‑build hospitals to refurbishment programmes and decarbonisation interventions — developing resilient, adaptable and low‑carbon mechanical solutions.
You will combine strong technical design skills with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement to guide projects through all stages, from feasibility to handover. This role is for a hands‑on, design‑focused engineer who wants technical ownership, client contact and the opportunity to influence sustainable healthcare environments.
Your new role
As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Ramboll’s UK Healthcare team you will deliver mechanical building‑services design and technical leadership across a portfolio of healthcare projects in the UK and internationally. You will combine hands‑on design delivery with client engagement, team mentoring and project management to develop resilient, low‑carbon and adaptable mechanical solutions.
We offer flexible working arrangements with candidates able to work from any of our primary offices as well as home. We have an exciting range of ongoing projects including Hillerød Hospital Denmark, Cambridge Children’s Hospital, Kettering General Hospital and KEMH, Falklands Islands.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical building‑services design from feasibility to handover, ensuring compliance with UK healthcare standards.
- Develop resilient, low‑carbon and adaptable mechanical concepts and detailed designs; produce and review calculations, specifications and drawings.
- Lead MEP coordination and digital delivery using Revit (BIM 360) and industry tools (e.g., Hevacomp, MagiCad, IES).
- Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and specialist sub‑consultants (architects, structural, electrical, public health, QS).
- Mentor and develop junior mechanical engineers and technicians.
- Act as client‑facing technical resource: present designs, attend project meetings and build strong client and contractor relationships.
- Manage project scope, resources and delivery as mechanical/MEP project lead, identifying and mitigating technical and commercial risks.
- Promote Ramboll’s profile through high‑quality deliverables and by contributing to proposals and technical inputs.
- Embed best practice in sustainability, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Key deliverables
- Deliver projects to agreed budget, programme and quality standards.
- Maintain clear, collaborative relationships with design teams and stakeholders.
- Coordinate design outputs and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
- Deliver safe, sustainable and commercially viable mechanical solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
