Job Title: Senior Mechanical Designer
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Sutton in Ashfield
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our mechanical design and development team.
This role merges technical and product development. You will be part of a team comprising Development Engineers and Design/Project Engineers, driving the design, development, and continuous improvement of our product range.
Collaborating closely with Production Management and colleagues across sales, manufacturing, electrical engineering, and marketing, you will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, commercially viable products and bringing innovative ideas to market.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of new products from concept through manufacture
- Review existing products to identify opportunities for improved performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost
- Work with sales teams and customers to develop and prototype new product concepts
- Manage design projects, ensuring timely delivery within agreed timescales and budgets
- Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation
- Ensure product compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and quality requirements
- Support technical submissions, customer enquiries, and sales activities when needed
- Collaborate with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams to develop practical and cost-effective solutions
- Monitor industry developments in technologies and materials, assessing their suitability for future products

About You
Qualifications & Certifications
You will have a solid background in mechanical engineering, demonstrated through a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (BEng).
- Ideally, you will be a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). SAPChartered Engineer (CEng) status would be advantageous.
- Proven senior experience in design engineering or engineering management.
Experience & Skills
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Strong product development and project management skills
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles
- Ability to align technical requirements with commercial objectives
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in creating and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation
- Knowledge of quality and environmental management systems
- SAP or similar ERP system experience would be advantageous
- Experience with digital engineering tools and capabilities, including CAD and simulation/FEA

Working Arrangements
- Must be based in the UK with a convenient commute to work onsite
- Mandatory attendance: Monday to Thursday (07:00 - 16:15), Friday (07:00 - 12:30)
