Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Warrington – Hybrid
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work predominantly within the Water industry, but with the potential to cover wider utilities, infrastructure, and industrial clients. This is a consultant role, with the possibility of being seconded to Aqua’s clients on either a part-time, full-time, or permanent basis, depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to feasibility, outline, and detailed design projects
- Tender and develop fee bids for projects
- Manage and coordinate multi-discipline projects and design projects, ensuring alignment with deadlines, budgets, and quality standards
- Conduct site visits as required
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, clients, and suppliers
- Support and mentor junior engineers in their development
- Deliver deliverables on time, within budget, and to the required standard
- Provide technical guidance and solutions for projects
- Contribute to innovative solutions tailored for clients’ needs
- Review and check drawings and project documents for accuracy
- Assist in improving ways of working through new tools, techniques, or methodologies
- Maintain personal professional development and continuous professional development (CPD)
- Support Aqua’s Mission 25 initiative to drive future business growth

Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- Water industry or wider utilities experience
- In-depth knowledge of water and sewage treatment processes, associated equipment, and systems
- Participation in HAZOPS, SWIFTS (Severe Weather Impact Forecasting for Treatment Systems), and design reviews
- Strong commercial awareness, understanding client factors, and their impact on projects
- Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
- Experience from feasibility to outline and detailed design stages
- Expertise in producing calculations (hydraulics, pump systems, screens, etc.)
- Ability to create schedules, deliverables, technical reports, drawings, and datasheets
- Hold a degree in mechanical engineering
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it within the next 6 months)
- Onsite experience (preferable)
- Proficiency in CAD (advantageous)
