Senior Mechanical Engineer | Energy Projects | Bristol, UK
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the delivery of complex mechanical engineering solutions across major energy and infrastructure projects. Acting as a technical authority, you will be responsible for the design, review, and integration of mechanical systems, ensuring they meet project requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practice. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and suppliers, you will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, driving design quality, resolving complex engineering challenges, and mentoring junior engineers. You will play a key role in ensuring mechanical systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective integration of mechanical systems with civil, structural, electrical, I&C, nuclear safety, hazards, environmental, and commissioning disciplines.
- Review, approve, and produce high-quality mechanical engineering documentation, including calculations, specifications, technical reports, design justifications, and engineering assessments.
- Lead technical reviews, design assurance activities, and peer reviews to ensure engineering quality and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify, assess, and resolve complex technical issues, providing innovative engineering solutions while managing technical risk.
- Manage engineering interfaces with clients, suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of design challenges.
- Lead change management activities by assessing the technical impact of proposed modifications and ensuring changes are implemented in accordance with project governance and configuration control processes.
- Ensure mechanical designs remain fully coordinated, traceable, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Support project planning, resource forecasting, and engineering estimates, contributing to successful project delivery within budget and programme.
- Mentor and coach graduate and junior engineers, supporting their technical development and promoting engineering best practice across the team.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance engineering processes, design efficiency, and project performance.
- Ensure all engineering activities are undertaken in accordance with nuclear safety principles, quality management systems, and relevant regulatory requirements.
