Job Title & Overview
🚀 Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit 🚀
Reporting to the Balance of Plant Lead, this role is responsible for developing a fluid system, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and managing supply chain collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Fluid System Development
- Manage a small fluid system development team.
- Review Design Documents
- Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Datasheets, and Specifications.
- Conduct Optioneering
- Lead and review optioneering studies, Decision Record Files, Design Descriptions, and Requirement Specifications.
- Apply Systems Engineering
- Develop and review Functional and Design Requirements using Systems Engineering principles.
- Integrate System Design
- Ensure seamless integration of the fluid system into the broader power plant design.
- Provide Technical Support
- Act as the technical contact point for interfaces and stakeholder activities.
- Support Design Reviews
- Participate in Design Reviews, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and multidisciplinary assessments.
- Liaise on Safety
- Collaborate on nuclear safety licensing, environmental planning/permitting, and associated interface tasks.
- Ensure Compliance
- Adhere to statutory health & safety (H&S) policies, project quality, and safety regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements
Industry Experience & Technical Skills
- Background in nuclear, thermal power, oil & gas, or other highly regulated sectors.
- Strong fluid system design development experience.
- Proficiency in roles spanning Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to detailed design and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) delivery.
- Skilled in developing procurement specifications and liaising with suppliers.
Knowledge & Competencies
- Technical expertise: Strong background in thermal power or similar large-scale industries.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Project Management: Ability to identify and manage critical interfaces on major projects.
- Safety & Standards:
- Knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations, safety systems, HAZOP, and relevant engineering standards.
- Familiarity with ASME, European, and UK codes and standards.
- Systems Engineering: Previous experience or awareness is advantageous.

Personal Specification & Attributes
- Results-driven: Independent, proactive, and collaborative team player.
- Organisational skills: Capable of handling confidential nuclear information diligently.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in engineering.
- Professional Registration: Currently holding (or working towards) Chartered Engineer (CEng) in a relevant discipline.
- Security Clearance: Must possess SC clearance or ability to achieve it.
