About the Role
At Cavendish Nuclear, we are committed to creating a safer and more secure world. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, your role will be pivotal in enhancing the UK Defence Nuclear infrastructure—specifically focusing on improving operational resilience and sustainability of critical systems.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of nuclear defence through multidisciplinary contributions involving complex mechanical systems integration. You will deliver high-impact solutions, ensuring project milestones are met with precision and integrity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating across engineering and cross-functional teams to harmonise project delivery and technical alignment
- Leading the production and review of technical documentation, including calculations, drawings, models, and reports
- Providing clear communication and technical insights to customers, supporting project and business development
- Ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, codes, and industry standards
- Identifying project risks, contributing to safety assessments, and championing continuous improvement through technical evaluations and process enhancements

Key Responsibilities
- Lead performance in mechanical engineering tasks across the full project lifecycle (from concept design to implementation)
- Mentor junior engineers while guiding them on technical excellence and project integrity
- Produce and review high-calibre engineering outputs (calculations, reviews, reports)
- Manage risks and ensure safety compliance, supporting the sustainability and resilience of critical defence systems
- Work as an integral team player, fostering innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration
Experience & Qualifications
Essential Requirements
✔ Proven expertise in delivering engineering activities across the full project lifecycle (from feasibility to execution) ✔ Strong background in multidisciplinary teamwork, solving complex mechanical problems ✔ Ability to produce detailed engineering documentation (drawings, technical reports, etc.) with minimal errors ✔ Exceptional communication skills—capable of engaging with stakeholders to resolve delivery and technical challenges
Required Qualifications
✔ Engineering degree (or recognised equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, aeronautical, nuclear) ⚠ Security Clearance Requirement:
- Must be eligible and able to obtain Standard (BPSS) or Security Check (SC) vetting clearance for this role
