Senior Mechanical Engineer
Senior Mechanical Engineer – Leeds Oncology (St James’ University Hospital)
EQUANS are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our permanent full-time (40 Hours/Week) contract at St James’ University Hospital.

About the Role
- Work alongside a dynamic maintenance team to deliver high-standard services for the hospital
- Provide a customer-facing, highly responsive maintenance service to the Leeds Oncology Wing
- Undertake a broad range of reactive and planned maintenance tasks, delivering them to the highest standard
- Offer technical guidance and support to other maintenance team members
- Carry out Authorised Person training to perform specialised duties
- Operate with flexibility and multi-skilling acumen
- Report to the maintenance supervisor
- Submit work progress and completion reports to ensure consistency and transparency
Key Responsibilities & Complexity
Our Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:

Maintenance & repairs of:
- Building, mechanical, and electrical services
- Heating and domestic water systems
- Lighting and power (general electrical services)
- Air handling units
- Low voltage electrical distribution & switchgear
- Emergency standby generating plant
- Fire alarm and emergency lighting systems
- Electrical control systems
- Building Management Systems

Forty risk assessments and inspections while adhering to relevant standards, NHS, Trust, and Company guidelines

Cover absences of other team members as required to maintain operational effectiveness

Maintain detailed work records and service reports, providing progress updates to the line manager

Assist skilled trades in installation, maintenance, and repair tasks

Complete training to maintain and develop specialised skills

Act as Competent or Authorised Person, depending on role & directives

Perform duties across healthcare projects, as instructed

Undertake required overtime to maintain service standards

Carry out other essential functions, as specified by role demands, commensurate with grade
Qualifications & Required Experience
- Qualified time-served engineer with minimum 3 years' post-apprenticeship experience
- Healthcare experience would be advantageous but is not essential
- Cross-trade experience — highly desirable
