At Arup, our Aviation business is entering an exciting phase of expansion. We’re delivering a diverse portfolio of high-impact projects, from airport planning and terminal design to cutting-edge consultancy and technical services that support resilient, sustainable operations.

As a global leader in aviation infrastructure, we work at the intersection of growth and sustainability, helping airports adapt, decarbonise, improve efficiency, and enhance the passenger journey.

Why join us?

  • Impactful Work: Help airports adapt, decarbonise, and enhance the passenger experience.

  • Flexible Working: Offices across the UK with hybrid working options to support work-life balance.
  • Global Reach, Local Impact: Collaborate with experts across disciplines and geographies.

The Opportunity

Working with the Aviation Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) design team, you will be involved in the production and delivery of building services and aircraft systems for these technically challenging maintenance facilities.

As a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will be a key part in the aviation team and work on multidisciplinary aviation projects providing guidance to junior engineers and working alongside other disciplines such as building physicists, sustainability consultants, energy, carbon consultants and BIM modellers. This team forms part of the wider region which includes civil, structural, fire, acoustics, specialist lighting, and other engineering disciplines.

We are particularly interested in candidates with proven experience in aviation facilities, particularly MRO hangars and support buildings.

In This Role You Will

  • Lead mechanical design and coordination for aviation and MRO facility projects.
  • Manage projects across all stages: feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Interface directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide and review technical documentation, specifications, and drawings.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Have a strong understanding of aviation-specific mechanical systems, including:
    • Mass air start systems
    • Aircraft fuel venting infrastructure
    • Aircraft hydraulic systems
    • Compressed air systems and other specialist gases.
  • Have familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Have familiarity with fire suppression systems typically provided to MRO facilities
  • Apply your engineering expertise to shape our projects, moving them towards net zero carbon.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment and aim to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact.
  • Provide leadership to the MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally, having the responsibility of ensuring correct technical approaches are applied to the project and are carried out appropriately to complete the tasks at hand.
  • Be expected to have project management skills and will have remit for the financial performance of the projects including liaising directly with clients on fees and commercial matters.
  • Effectively oversee total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Manager / Director
  • Play a part in the ongoing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
