Senior Mechanical Engineers

Mechanical Engineer – Defence & Engineering Projects

About the Role

We are recruiting and developing career-minded professionals to strengthen our multi-discipline engineering delivery capability within the UK’s defence industry. Our projects span nuclear submarine fleet solutions, air, land, and sea defence systems, and manufacturing facility development—all within complex and evolving environments.

As part of a >/ 300-strong team across the UK, you’ll provide mechanical engineering support to key client projects within a growing team based in Glasgow, Bristol, or Reading.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who seeks exposure to a diverse range of engineering disciplines and project phases. With projects expanding nationally, you’ll have the chance to shape your career path while contributing to high-impact challenges.

Experience in defence-related engineering is helpful, but we also welcome mechanical design professionals eager to transition into a technically demanding sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support during the development and analysis of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including:
    • Diagrams
    • Technical specifications
    • Supporting calculations and analysis
    • Design evidence and justifications
  • Demonstrate leadership and problem-solving to influence key design decisions.
  • Deliver a professional engineering service to clients, including:
    • Conducting design reviews
    • Presenting findings
  • Liaise with cross-disciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced engineers within the team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
