Job Overview

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN INTERNAL ROLE FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE RUH ONLY

Senior Medical Secretary – General Surgery

We’re looking for an organised, proactive and supportive Senior Medical Secretary to join our General Surgery team. In this key role, you’ll provide high-quality secretarial support to Consultants while leading and coordinating a team of administrative staff to ensure a smooth, efficient and patient-focused service.

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to lead our dedicated team of Medical Secretaries. In this role, you’ll be supporting an enthusiastic team, helping to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of care to our patients. Strong administrative skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a proactive, flexible approach are essential. You’ll be expected to maintain high standards of accuracy and confidentiality in all aspects of your work.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Line Management of the General Surgery Medical Secretaries, including managing annual leave, sickness absence and appraisals.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the department on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provide a complete medical administrative service including Referral to Treatment (RTT), managing patient correspondence and editing and formatting letters.
  • Liaising with both clinical and administrative colleagues to provide a quality service for the patients.

Working for our organisation

At the RUH we put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
