About The Role

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior MEP Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major MEP works package on the St Andrews New College development for the University of St Andrews.

This is a high-profile higher-education project, combining listed-building refurbishment and new-build academic accommodation, delivered by Balfour Beatty Regional Scotland with the MEP scope managed through Balfour Beatty MEP Scotland’s packaged delivery model.

The role is ideal for an experienced MEP commercial professional who thrives in complex, multi-interface environments and wants exposure to a flagship project with long-term career progression.

The Project – St Andrews New College (MEP Works)

You’ll play a key role in the commercial management of the MEP works package, covering mechanical, electrical and public-health services across both refurbished heritage buildings and new academic facilities.

The MEP Scope Includes

  • Full building services installation and integration
  • Plant rooms, power infrastructure and controls
  • Services to lecture theatres, teaching spaces, research areas, offices and public-facing facilities

Delivery is through multiple specialist subcontract packages, requiring strong commercial control, change management and close coordination with build, architectural and conservation teams in a live university environment.

This is a commercially critical MEP package, central to programme certainty, value delivery and successful handover aligned to academic occupancy dates.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial responsibility for allocated MEP subcontract packages
  • Manage cost reporting, forecasting, CVRs and final accounts
  • Lead procurement and commercial management of MEP subcontractors
  • Identify, price and agree variations and change events
  • Manage cash flow, valuations and applications for payment
  • Maintain robust commercial records to support change, claims and risk management
  • Work closely with project, design and construction teams to manage interfaces
  • Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty commercial standards and governance
  • Support project reviews, reporting and stakeholder engagement

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor on MEP or building services packages
  • Experience working within a Tier-1 main contractor or major MEP contractor environment
  • Strong understanding of commercial management, procurement and subcontract administration
  • Experience managing complex MEP scopes on projects typically £10m+ in value
  • Confident managing change, risk and cost certainty in live project environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Proficient with commercial reporting systems and MS Office
  • Valid CSCS card

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
