Senior Microsoft 365 Solutions Engineer

Internal Technology – Senior Engineer (Microsoft 365 Ecosystem)****Oxford, UK


About the Role

Based in our Oxford office, you will join the Engineering Team within Internal Technology. The team is responsible for the design, delivery, continual improvement, and escalation support of the core services that power Aurora’s tools and technology, enabling staff to perform at their best.

Reporting into the Architecture and Engineering function, you will contribute as a proactive senior engineer, bringing deep expertise and proven delivery experience across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem—including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and the underlying identity and network services that connect them.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of projects and operational improvements to ensure seamless delivery through meticulous attention to detail. You will collaborate with the team to enhance documentation, strengthen governance, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain a well-managed, performant environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Excellence

    • Drive a proactive, detail-focused, and DevOps-driven approach to engineering solutions.
    • Set high standards for processes, documentation, and team practices by leading by example.
    • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the fragment growth of the Internal Technology team.
    • Share expertise and guide the team to elevate overall technical capabilities.
  • Microsoft Technology Expertise

    • Provide enterprise-grade advice and collaborative problem-solving across Microsoft technologies, including:
      • Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams
      • Entra ID (Azure AD), Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager
      • Windows deployments and license management
    • Stay current with Microsoft’s evolving ecosystem and deliver strategic insights for technology integrations.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement best-practice solutions.
  • Efficiency & Employee Experience

    • Optimise Microsoft technology configurations to align with business objectives.
    • Enhance employee productivity and collaboration by ensuring seamless access and usage of tools.

  • Project Delivery

    • Lead complex projects across the Microsoft ecosystem, from requirements gathering to delivery.
    • Work closely with Project Managers and stakeholders to define solutions, mitigate risks, and achieve successful outcomes.
    • Ensure targeted improvements align with Aurora’s scalability and operational goals.
  • System Ownership

    • Take end-to-end ownership of Microsoft platforms (e.g. Exchange, Entra ID, Intune).
    • Troubleshoot issues independently, implement operational enhancements, and maintain optimal system availability and stability.
    • Work with IT support to ensure high reliability and user satisfaction.
  • Governance & Documentation

    • Develop, refine, and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
    • Ensure consistent operational governance within the team.
    • Contribute to raising documentation standards, reducing fragility in processes.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Required Attributes

  • Hands-on experience with designing and delivering Microsoft 365 solutions (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Windows deployments).
  • Specialist expertise in:
    • Entra ID and migration scenarios
    • Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager (including managed devices, compliance, conditional access).
  • Ability to own and deliver end-to-end projects, whether complex or large-scale, with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, or Azure Resource Manager templates for automation and APIs.
  • Strong Agile/Scrum ability—comfortable with backlog prioritisation, backlog refinement, and efficient sprint completions.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining detailed documentation, SOPs, and process guides.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and storytelling skills to translate technical issues into user-friendly solutions.
  • Self-motivated, with exceptional time management, organisation, and attention to detail.
  • A Solutionarship mindset—comfortable with proactive problem-solving and a collaborative team mentality.
  • Flexibility and positivity in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strong business acumen with a passion for using technology to solve real-world challenges.

Desirable Attributes, but not mandatory

  • Experience with Cloud App Security, Copilot, Defender, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, or Microsoft Purview.
  • Networking proficiency:
    • DNS/DHCP configuration, TCP/IP troubleshooting, VPN/hybrid connectivity, azard Wi-Fi, firewall architectures.
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g. MCSE, MCP, Azure certifications).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps tools such as:
    • Azure DevOps (CI/CD pipelines)
    • Terraform / OpenTofu (Infrastructure-as-Code)
    • Git repos for state management
  • Experience working in a rapidly scaling organisation.
  • Familiarity with Aurora’s Tier 1 systems:
    • Azure Active Directory, Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, Dynamics 365 (F&O).
