Mobile Software Developer Engineer in Test
We are looking for a Mobile Software Developer Engineer in Test to join our cross-functional engineering team. This is a great opportunity for a mid-level QA professional who enjoys a blend of manual testing, exploratory testing, and test automation. You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, React Native Mobile Developers, and QA colleagues to ensure the quality of our mobile applications and shared platform capabilities. You'll help drive quality throughout the development lifecycle by participating in requirements discussions, creating test plans, executing functional and exploratory testing, and expanding our automated test coverage.
What You'll Do
- Perform manual testing of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across iOS and Android applications.
- Create and execute test plans, test cases, and exploratory testing activities.
- Work closely with developers during feature development to identify quality risks early.
- Build and maintain automated tests for critical user journeys using our existing automation frameworks.
- Validate integrations with APIs and backend services.
- Participate in sprint planning, refinement, and release activities.
- Identify, document, and track defects through to resolution.
- Support regression testing efforts before releases.
- Contribute to improving testing practices, tooling, and quality processes across the team.
- Help ensure accessibility, usability, and performance expectations are met.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working in a QA or Software Testing role.
- Strong manual testing skills, including exploratory and regression testing.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
- Understanding of mobile application testing across iOS and Android platforms.
- Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman or similar.
- Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have
- Experience testing React Native applications.
- Experience with automation tools such as Appium, Detox, Maestro, Playwright, or similar.
- Experience with cloud device testing platforms.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing.
- Experience within financial services, fintech, or regulated environments.
- Understanding of feature flags and progressive rollouts.
- Basic knowledge of mobile build processes (Xcode and Android Studio).
What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you'll:
- Become comfortable testing HL's mobile platform and key customer journeys.
- Contribute manual and automated testing to sprint deliveries.
- Develop a good understanding of our quality standards and release processes.
- Work collaboratively with engineers to improve test coverage and reduce production defects.
- Help build confidence in releases through effective testing and risk identification.
Interview Process
Stage 1 - Screening interview (30 mins)
A brief conversation to review your experience, understand your approach to quality, and assess overall role fit.
Stage 2 - Technical take home exercise (1 week)
A take home technical test where you'll be asked to implement automated tests for an existing React Native mobile application to ensure its quality.
Stage 3 - Code walkthrough and behavioural interview (90 mins)
We will go over your submitted take home exercise to get a better understanding of how you solve problems, also we ask some behavioural questions to make sure you're a good fit for our team and company culture.
