Senior Molecular Biologist (Gene Synthesis Start-up) – London
(Exciting Opportunity – Permanent Vacancy)
About the Role
Are you a hands-on molecular biologist who enjoys translating science into real-world solutions? We are seeking a Senior Molecular Biologist to join an early-stage biotech company specialising in computational gene synthesis platforms and automation. This is a lab-focused role with direct impact on commercial innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular biology workflows for gene synthesis
- Own and drive iterative experimental cycles to enhance:
- Performance
- Robustness
- Scalability
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation
- Collaborate with external partners to transfer and replicate technical capabilities internally
- Up-skill automated liquid handling platforms for commercial scaling
- Operate and optimise sequencing platforms (Nanopore and Sanger sequencing)
- Analyse sequencing/experimental data using Python-based tools
- Participate in strategic discussions as the company evolves toward commercialisation

What We Look for
Essential Requirements
- Strong hands-on molecular biology experience with proven troubleshooting skills
- Practical, iterative mindset and passion for bench science
- Familiarity with automated liquid handling systems
- Experience operating Nanopore and Sanger sequencing platforms
- Relevant industry experience with commercial acumen
- Practical Python (data analysis) skills
- Excellent documentation and communication
- Ability to own and drive workstreams independently
- Gene synthesis experience (industry exposure is desirable)
