The Opportunity

Working with the Aviation Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) design team, you will be involved in the preparation, production and delivery of facility masterplanning services for these challenging aircraft maintenance installations. As a Senior MRO Facility Masterplanner, you will play a key part in the aviation team. You will work alongside the Lead MRO Facility Masterplanner across a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary projects and clients. Our work typically involves both the refurbishment of existing facilities as well as new build opportunities, across all project stages from Feasibility to Construction. The role will involve working with your aviation design team colleagues as you make sure the client’s brief is understood and met through rigorous co-ordination alongside other disciplines, including civil & structural engineers, building services engineers, building physicists, sustainability consultants, fire & acoustic engineers, BIM modellers.

We are particularly interested in candidates with proven experience in aviation facilities, particularly MRO hangars and support buildings. We will also consider candidates with a developing interest in aviation and MRO, who have experience in the facility planning of industrial facilities, or other process-driven workplaces.

Would suit previous student of Architecture, Town Planning, Urban Design, Facility Planning or a similar subject.

In This Role You Will

  • Provide facility masterplanning design and coordination for aviation and MRO facility projects.
  • Work on projects across all stages: feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Interface directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Plan and lead stakeholder workshops to understand their requirements and develop the facility planning layouts that are informed by these sessions.
  • Provide and review technical documentation, specifications, and drawings.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Support business development through technical input and client engagement.
  • Have a strong understanding of aviation-specific facility requirements, including:
    • Maintenance Facility & Equipment Planning Documents (MFEPD)
    • Aircraft maintenance check types
    • Workshops – metalwork, composites, interiors and avionics
    • Stores – bonded and unbonded
    • Engine run-up facilities
    • Airside/Landside interfaces, including security considerations
  • Have familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply your expertise to shape our projects, moving them towards net zero carbon.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary environment and aim to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact.
  • Contribute to the total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Manager / Director.
  • Play a part in the ongoing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design.

We’re Looking For a Candidate Who

  • Has demonstrable experience working in the aviation sector; MRO facility design in particular, or experience in the facility planning of industrial facilities.
  • Has extensive experience of delivering a range of projects.
  • Has the ability to engage with client teams and lead stakeholder workshops to understand their demands and needs.
  • Has experience of co-ordinating their work with multi-disciplinary design teams including external sub-consultants.
  • Has strong awareness of appropriate sector-specific legislation, regulatory requirements and design guidance and future trends.
  • Has knowledge and interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon and satisfying associated regulatory requirements.
  • Holds, or is working towards, membership of an appropriate professional institution.
