We are seeking a **hands-on Senior Network Engineer who thrives on problem-solving in dynamic environments. This role demands proactive leadership, technical depth, and the confidence to drive solutions—not someone who waits for direction.
About the Role
As a technical lead within the Network Service, your work will shape and evolve Serco’s enterprise network services, covering multi-cloud environments, core connectivity, security, and operational delivery. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, solution architects, operational teams, and suppliers to ensure our network infrastructure remains secure, scalable, performant, and future-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design, engineering, and evolution of Serco’s enterprise network services, including architecture for AWS and Azure.
- Design and support secure, multi-cloud networking solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, operational teams, and third-party suppliers to deliver robust, scalable network solutions.
- Develop and maintain high-quality architecture documentation, including:
- High-Level Designs (HLDs)
- Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
- Network diagrams
- Drive continuous improvement across network performance, resilience, security, and service adoption.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues, analyse failures, and provide long-term solutions for operational teams.
- Help define short- and long-term technology roadmaps to keep Serco’s infrastructure secure, scalable, and business-aligned.
- Support new service introductions through:
- Technical analysis
- Deployment planning
- Cost modelling
- Implementation coordination
- Ensure compliance with security best practices, including:
- Zero-trust principles
- Secure, government/regulated environments
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and business teams within a complex, matrix organisation.

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in a senior network engineering or network design role.
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Enterprise networking technologies (UPCs, security controls, routing/switching)
- AWS networking & Azure networking architecture and design
- Cisco Meraki technologies
- Network security technologies (firewalls, VPNs, DDoS protection)
- Knowledge and experience with:
- Carrier WAN technologies (e.g. MPLS, leased lines, managed connectivity)
- Working in regulated or government-secure environments (highly desirable)
- Experience with architectural frameworks (e.g. TOGAF).
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, including:
- HLDs, LLDs, and detailed network diagrams
- Collaborative experience with suppliers, partners, and third-party operational teams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex enterprise networking environments.
- Occasional need for 24/7 support or escalation cover depending on requirements.

- Palo Alto PCNSE/Prisma
