JD :- Scope:
Experienced Senior UK based network engineer required for a programme of work within National Grid which aims to modernize and enhance the UK network infrastructure to improve reliability, security, and user experience. Key initiatives include replacing end-of-life network hardware, deploying enhanced Wi-Fi solutions, and provisioning high-speed internet connectivity services overlayed with CISCO SDWAN technology.
The programme will also progress alternative connectivity options such as satellite and 5G solutions for disaster recovery and rapid deployment, while supporting facility expansion projects.

Comprehensive wireless surveys and design work will be a significant part of this engagement, with ad-hoc travel required to the UK national grid sites to conduct physical Wi-Fi surveys and Desktop surveys with Ekahau tools.

Key Skills and Expertise Required
- Minimum Cisco CCNP certification level required
- CCIE certification is desirable
- Certified Wireless Networking Professional (CWNP) certification is highly desirable
- In depth knowledge of Wireless LAN (Cisco WLAN, Cisco ISE, Aruba WLAN, Aruba Clearpass) and private 5G (e.g. Cradlepoint) solutions
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi survey tools (Ekahau), RF design, and deployment of enterprise-grade wireless solutions
- In depth knowledge of SD-WAN solutions (CISCO Viptela)
- In depth knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), carrier WAN and Internet offerings, cloud network services
- In-depth knowledge of Cisco LAN switching technologies including STP, RSTP, MSTP, VLANs, EtherChannel and switch stacking; proficient in configuring and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, implementing QoS, and managing network segmentation and redundancy
- Ability to produce detailed designs, implementation plans, and operational support models
- Strong stakeholder engagement and coordination across multiple environments
