Senior Network Engineer

Birmingham (Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office)
£60,000 plus bonus and excellent benefits package

Are you an experienced Network Engineer looking for a role that offers a genuine mix of hands-on technical support and exciting project work?

We're looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join a growing infrastructure team where you'll play a key role in maintaining, improving and evolving a modern enterprise network environment. This is an opportunity to work with the latest networking technologies while helping shape the organisation's future cloud networking and automation strategy.

The Role

This is a varied position, combining business-as-usual operational support with the delivery of infrastructure projects. You'll be responsible for ensuring the stability, security and performance of the network whilst contributing to new technology implementations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working closely with the wider Infrastructure and Cloud teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence network design, introduce best practice and support the organisation's ongoing digital transformation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing and supporting enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites.
  • Providing 3rd line support and acting as the technical escalation point for networking issues.
  • Delivering network refresh, upgrade and migration projects.
  • Configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Fortinet and Cisco networking technologies.
  • Monitoring network performance, capacity and security.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve network resilience, performance and automation.
  • Collaborating with Infrastructure, Cloud and Security teams on strategic technology initiatives.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with strong enterprise networking experience who enjoys both operational support and project delivery.

You'll ideally have experience with:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet networking technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies.
  • Routing, switching and network security.
  • Firewall administration and troubleshooting.
  • VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN technologies.
  • Network monitoring and performance optimisation.
  • Experience working within complex enterprise environments.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Exposure to cloud networking technologies (Azure and/or AWS).
  • An interest in network automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with scripting tools such as Python, Ansible or Terraform.
  • Relevant Cisco or Fortinet certifications.
