Senior Network Engineer
Senior Network Engineer (Work from Home)
Our client is a global technology business operating internet content and security platforms for organisations worldwide. They’re seeking a Senior Network Engineer to own and lead their network—designing, delivering, supporting, and mentoring a small team in a hybrid environment.
Remote with occasional East London office visits
- Base Salary: £65,000 – £72,000
- Location: Primarily work from home | East London data centre visits when required
- Primary Vendors: Cisco | Palo Alto (Fortinet for security)
The Role: All-Rounder Network Leadership
This is a technical authority position where you’ll take full ownership of a globally distributed network encompassing: -Routing & switching -Network security (firewalls, VPN, compliance) -Wireless -Cloud networking (Azure preferred) -Linux systems
Your expertise will bring broad depth across these areas.
Responsibilities
Core Technological Duties
- Design, deploy, and support a hybrid network spanning on-premises, data centres, and cloud environments
- Serve as the senior subject-matter expert (SME) for network issues that others cannot resolve
- Configure and manage:
- Routers, switches, firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet)
- Load balancers, VPNs (IPSec), QoS policies
- Monitor network performance, capacity, and risks proactively to prevent incidents
- Lead network security:
- Firewall management and laser-focused security policy compliance
- IPSec VPN administration and defence
- Work with automation and deployment tooling:
- Ansible for configuration management
- Python and bash scripting for procedural tasks
- Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 troubleshooting support, including 24/7 on-call rotations
- Maintain precise documentation:
- Network diagrams
- Configuration records
- Change histories and audits

Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers:
- Conduct design reviews
- Share knowledge through hands-on training sessions
- Serve as a supplementary technical advisor
- Effective communication:
- Clarity with peers and senior business stakeholders
- Translate technical details into actionable insights
Requirements
Experience & Technical Expertise
- 7+ years as a network engineer, with 5+ years in a senior role
- Strong Cisco background is essential
- 5+ years of firewalls experience is highly valued (Palo Alto or Fortinet):
- Must demonstrate hands-on familiarity with each relevant platform
- Proficiency in parameters:
- Dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF)
- Subnetting, TCP/IP, OSI model foundational understanding
- Linux acumen:
- Server environment administration
- Troubleshooting (CLI, logs, builds)
- Scripting for automation tasks
- Container networking:
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker environments
- Hybrid cloud networks: Azure preferred (or equivalent AWS/Azure expertise)
- Knowledge of engineering tooling:
- Ansible, Python, Bash scripting for automation
- Network monitoring systems (Grafana, Syslog, OpenTelemetry)
- Stakeholder engagement:
- Translate technical solutions into business outcomes
- Work with global engineering teams across 5+ countries

Location
- Must live within an hour’s commute of East London Remote daily with East London data centre visits when required
Certifications
- Preferred:
- CCNP or CCIE (Cisco dependancies)
- Palo Alto PCNSE (Firewall management)
- Any equivalent vendor certification demonstrating mastery
