We are currently recruiting for a Senior Network Technology Consultant to support the evolution of our network. In this role, you will:
- Contribute to technology decision-making processes by crafting and evaluating major investment proposals for key network and technology platforms.
- Provide an internal technical strategy consultancy service, working with architecture, engineering, planning functions, and vendors.
- Deliver high-level options, cost assessments, and lead times at the concept evaluation stage.
- Collaborate with finance teams to develop investment cases, ensuring costs and benefits are measurable and robust.
- Influence hundreds of millions of capital spend in the UK fixed network.

Investment Reports & Feasibility
- Assist in technical briefings and the creation of investment cases.
- Ensure comprehensive analysis of all viable solutions, exploring cost, benefit, and timeline feasibility.
Collaboration
- Work closely with finance, engineering, and architecture teams.
- Advise on emerging technologies that could shape our network future.
Requirements
Must-Have Experience
- Proven technical expertise in the UK’s fixed-line/cable network sector.
- Experience in cross-functional roadmap development across different engineering domains.
- Advanced Excel skills (advanced use, modelling, financial analysis).
- A track record in creating technical briefing packs for executive decision-making.
- Experience driving innovation, especially in Access Network optimisation and customer experience improvements.
Desired Skills & Knowledge
- Experience in Tier 1 carrier-class network architecture, especially for access products.
- Technical authority in PON (Passive Optical Network) technologies, including:
- FTTP architectures (logical/physical grades, switching OCTEs, DBA, ONTs).
- L2 aggregation, XGSPON, OLTs, and BNGs, with IP/VPLS focus—and service disruption considerations.
- OLT virtualisation strategies which might leverage NFV/SDN.
- Mindset for emerging (‘disruptive’) technologies: SR-MPLS (Segment Routing in MPLS).
- Strong ability to balance considerations for network iron vs best-in-class COTS quality and service-grade availability.
