Senior Network Technology Consultant – Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Network Technology Consultant to drive the strategic evolution of our network through significant technology investments and decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead technical decision-making by evaluating major investment proposals for key network and technology platforms.
  • Provide strategic consultancy services internally, collaborating with architecture, engineering, planning teams, and vendors to deliver:
    • High-level options, cost assessments, and lead-time allocations at the concept evaluation/directional strategy stage.
  • Develop and refine optical (EOP), fibre, carrier-grade Ethernet and ISP Data transport technology roadmaps and strategies.
  • Engage closely with our commercial and finance teams to ensure investment cases are robust, cost-effective, and well-articulated, including measurable benefits and viable alternatives.

This has direct millions of pounds impact on our contractor spend, ensuring capital investments align with both technical requirements and revenue outcomes.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

You must have:

  • Strong fixed network technical knowledge
  • Experience in crafting and governing domain roadmaps across network engineering domains
  • Excel proficiency at an advanced level
  • Expertise in creating technical briefing packs
  • A proven track record of driving technical innovation and customer-centric improvements in Access Network development

Desirable Additional Skills

We particularly value:

  • Experience in Tier 1 carrier-grade network tech—especially for access products
  • Deep PON expertise covering passive/FTTP principles, L2 aggregation, XGSPON, OLTs, and BNG solutions, with a focus on network virtualisation
  • Understanding of emerging technologies (e.g., SR-MPLS for scalable network architectures)
  • Familiarity with vendor engagement processes and resource autonomy
