About the Role

As a Senior News Taxonomist (Data Discovery & Enrichment Expert I), you will influence how global news and business content is structured, discovered, and understood. You’ll leverage taxonomy frameworks and AI tools to refine classification accuracy and optimise AI-driven content experiences.

🔍 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain structured taxonomies for traversing subjects, industries, geographies, people, and events
  • Define and refine classification rules, including synonyms, scope, and variants, using proprietary systems
  • Audit and revise classifications to enhance precision, recall, and value to customers
  • Innovate by exploring emerging trends and refining taxonomy priorites in collaboration with product teams
  • Leverage AI workflows, assessing outputs for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards
  • Debate and establish taxonomy best practices, standards, and associated documentation to secure long-term usability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, developers, and product teams to enhance understanding and utility

Requirements & Essential Qualifications

✅ Core Skills & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent professional grounding in library science, information studies, or knowledge management
  • Outstanding research capabilities, with an eye for logic and nuance
  • Substantial expertise in news, business, geopolitics, economics, or information exploration
  • Unmatched fluency in written and spoken English, with the skill to untangle nuanced concepts
  • Robust experience in taxonomy development, metadata design, or systemised knowledge organisation
  • Technical aptitude for learning and proficient use of proprietary taxonomy systems
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies to support iterative refinement
